Dōjōji

On July 4, 2024, Ranshou Fujima produced and performed a special stage for the art fair Tokyo Gendai (organized by The Art Assembly) at the Yokohama Museum of Art. The performance featured Kyokanoko Musume Dōjōji, one of the most significant pieces in the history of kabuki dance, originally premiered in 1753. The stage design and direction were inspired by the architecture of the Yokohama Museum, designed by Kenzo Tange. While the choreography, costume and music etc. remained faithful to the classical original, the overall performance was shortened and selectively adapted to reflect the historical context and content of Kyokanoko Musume Dōjōji.

The ensemble of musicians was composed of 22 leading Japanese artists, including prominent performers such as nagauta singer Kineya Katsushiro, shamisen player Kineya Eihachiro, and hayashi percussionist Katada Shinjuro. This project sought to encapsulate the unique expression of an art fair in Japan, like an arrow flying from the Edo period through Modernism to the present day. The title "1928" was chosen to reference the year kabuki first performed overseas and the year Kunio Maekawa (who put a significant impact on Tange and Japanese architectural modernism) joined Le Corbusier's office.

2024年7月4日、藤間蘭翔は、アートフェア「東京現代」のために、横浜美術館における特別なステージを制作・プロデュースし、自らパフォーマンスをおこなった。本パフォーマンスでは、歌舞伎舞踊史上の最も重要な演目の一つ「京鹿子娘道成寺」(初演1753年)を、丹下健三による横浜美術館に呼応するようにステージ・デザインをし、演出を施したものである。
振付・衣装・演奏等は古典のオリジナルのままであるが、演目全体は短縮されており、京鹿子娘道成寺の成立経緯や内容をふまえた、”ならでは”の取捨選択が行われた。演奏家は、唄・杵屋勝四郎氏、三味線・杵屋栄八郎氏、囃子・堅田新十郎氏を筆頭に、日本を代表する22人により構成されている。日本開催のアートフェアならではの表現として、江戸からモダニズム、そして現代まで走る矢として追求されたプロジェクトである。
なお、「1928」は、歌舞伎が初めて海外公演をおこなった年であり、丹下及び日本の建築モダニズムに大きな影響を与えた前川國男がコルビュジェの事務所に入所した年に因む。
