Engaging in a dialogue with Seiki Kuroda’s Chi (智), Kan (感), Jō (情) (Wisdom, Impression, Sentiment) and drawing on the form of Kabuki dance onnagata (female forms), I seek to explore the evolving conceptions of the “body” and “beauty” from the Edo and Meiji periods to the present day.
In so doing, I aim to embody and render a personal vision of feminine beauty, rooted in the present moment, as a woman of this era.
